Events in San Diego This Week, 12/01 - 12/07
In the aftermath of a perhaps slightly chaotic, but enjoyable, Thanksgiving week, we offer you evenings that invite moments to sit still. From an upscale dining experience to alternative and traditional performances, join us for calmer evening events before the holiday season's surge.
Vanguardista Night
Dec. 3 @ Matsu
Chef William Eick concocts a 6-course Japanese tasting menu in an evening of grace, gentle conversation, and good eats. Proceeds from the dinner benefit Vanguard Culture, a nonprofit arts magazine dedicated to San Diego’s creative workforce. A silent auction will be held during the event.
It's Kitschmastime Again, Brian & Ryan
Dec. 5 @ Bread & Salt Gallery
For their 10th annual performance and 3rd at the Athenaeum Center, the duo Brian and Ryan return in the Salty Series produced by Project [BLANK]. This pageant is “glitter-drenched” with offbeat storytelling, celebrating everything wonderful and weird about the holidays. Project [BLANK]’s last performance of the year, the co-exhibition also runs through the 31st.
MOMIX: Alice
Dec. 6 @ Civic Theatre
Rather than a simple rehashing of the classic Alice in Wonderland, Momix’s production uses Lewis Carroll’s fantastical story as a soundboard for further exploration. This company of dancer-illusionists work with light, shadow, props, and the human body. Momix: Alice, a collection of dance pieces, creates a trippy performance, which will leave you wondering what will happen next.
Le Salon de Musiques: Concert 3
Dec. 7 @ The La Jolla Women’s Club
Le Salon de Musiques, French for the music room, is hosting a chamber music concert in an intimate setting at The La Jolla Women’s Club. Listen, enchanted, to classical pieces from famous composers Mozart, Howells, and Schumann. Enjoy a high tea buffet catered by The French Gourmet following the concert, along with an opportunity to meet the musicians and concertgoers.
Ms. Cast: The Naughty List
Dec. 7 @ Moxie Theatre
Moxie, a professional nonprofit theatre company based in San Diego, aims to promote and give voice to women+. In a one-night-only cabaret, combining music, dance, drama, and a touch of comedy in an intimate setting, Moxie brings villainous voices to the stage. Get ready to embrace your inner troublemaker with this flipped script!
Enjoy soft music, tasty menus, and unusual performances before the boom of Christmas. After all, it’s the uninterrupted, the unexpected, the unconventional, that keeps life fresh.
