Events in San Diego This Week, 11/17 - 11/23
We invite you this week to extraordinary yet intimate storytelling. From ethereal visuals to surprising historical narratives, here’s a curation of this week’s events.
“Impressions” live at Meraki Spaces
Nov. 21 @ Meraki Spaces
In this immersive art gallery, wander between studios and gaze at the artists live at work amid the cacophony of colored lights. Enjoy a few refreshing bites along the way in a soothing atmosphere. An improvisational art movement and social mingle with art by Meraki Spaces residents, light by Ben Guerrette, and sound by Jazz House artists.
“Blue Hour” by Michelle Sui
Nov. 21 @ Bread & Salt Gallery
The Salty Series returns with Blue Hour, a performance by multidisciplinary artist Michelle Sui. In a reimagination of the otherwise lost ending of the 1922 film The Toll of the Sea, Sui blurs the line between dream and memory, drawing from mythic archetypes and personal storytelling to create an intimate, otherworldly atmosphere. Through poetic narrative, film, and live music, expect something that transgresses boundaries and forges new ones.
“Fakes & Forgeries” Art Talk
Nov. 22 @ Walter Redondo Fine Art Collection
Step in time through fakes and forgeries — a love letter to conmasters throughout the ages. In an illustrated talk that reveals a hidden side of the art world, you’ll walk through a history of the Old Masters who managed to blur the line between genius and deception. Sip on drinks and munch on bites for purchase at Dorothy’s Wine Bar and come hungry to learn more.
“One Flea Spare” Closing Night
Nov. 22 @ Shank Theatre
The psychological meets the stage with a London tale set at the height of the plague in 1655. An award-winning play, One Flea Spare, follows the lives of four people in confinement. The Snelgraves thought their quarantine was over, until two newcomers invade their home. In this performance, watch people go mad — or go mad yourself.
Flow
Nov. 23 @ Jacobs Music Center
Flow, an animated film which won Golden Globe and Academy awards, is the first Latvian film to do so. Following a cat in a post-apocalyptic landscape, its stunning visuals and wordless storytelling make its debut with the San Diego Symphony while the latter performs Rihard Zalupe’s score. Go for captivating imagery, moving music, and an all-around immersive experience.
Stories with words, stories from history, and stories with captivating visuals — let this be the week you find a new one.
