- An Artist's Duty: Art Exhibition

  • Centro Cultural De La Raza 2004 Park Boulevard San Diego, CA, 92101 United States (map)

A Night at The Centro: Letters, Borders, and the Art of Resistance
On August 2, the Centro Cultural de la Raza invites you into a dual exhibition pulsing with memory, identity, and cultural power.

In Chicanografía: Las Letras de Los Barrios de Aztlán, the everyday act of writing one’s name becomes radical. From Old English to OG Placazos, these handstyles—once painted on barrio walls—are now recontextualized as visual testaments to survival, pride, and generational resistance. Featuring works by Gusmano Cesaretti, Chaz Bojórquez, and others, this show is a deep dive into placazo culture, its aesthetics, its history, and its soul.

Just across the space, An Artist’s Duty amplifies voices from the Anti-Border Futures exhibit. These works confront systems of division and displacement, blending Chicano, Mexican, Indigenous, and Latinx perspectives into one sharp and beautiful resistance.

Together, these two exhibitions offer more than art. They offer a call to remember, reclaim, and reimagine. Come for the visuals. Stay for the story.
