- 29th Annual Fungus Fair

  • Casa del Prado in Balboa Park 1650 El Prado San Diego, CA, 92101 United States (map)

Open Invitation

We are so excited to share the date for our 2026 Fungus Fair! Please join us for a day of learning and fun on February 1st from 10am to 4pm.

You can start you day by perusing the array of goods at our Fungus Fair Market, filled with artisan arts and crafts as well as functional and culinary mushroom delights!

Then head down to the Fungus Fair main hall at Casa del Prado, Room 101, where you will find a wide array of displays. First and foremost is our ID table, where we will showcase the fungi found across San Diego County during our Fungus Fair annual foray the day before.

Head over to our science tables, where you will have an opportunity to learn about mycological science happening in San Diego. At the Salk Institute, Dr. Lena Mueller and her team are focused on studying mycorrhizal fungi as a means to improve agricultural production while mitigating our carbon footprint. At our Citizen Science table, you’ll learn more about how SDMYCO is giving back to the science community, and how you can get involved! We will also have a Lichen table where our resident Lichenologist, Jessica Allen, will introduce you to her wonderful world and amaze you with some incredible facts about lichen.

For those interested in the arts, we will have an art gallery that displays the beautiful work submitted for our annual art contest. We will also have a special guest, Julie Beeler (author of the Mushroom Color Atlas), who will show you how to use mushroom dyes to make a colorful scarf. Lastly, we will have an art area where artists of all ages and skill levels can get creative!

There will also be a couple of chefs in room 101 who will be cooking up a storm, and you can stop by to grab lunch.

Across the courtyard in room 104, we will have a variety of speakers presenting throughout the day. Some of the talks include Myco Materials, Mushroom Dyes for artistic application, a mushroom culinary cooking demo, and a cultivation class.

These are just some of the highlights, and we will share more as we get closer to the date.

We can’t wait to see you there!
